[1346] In a formal act (kamma) to be performed by a group of four (catuvagga), four regular bhikkhus in good standing (pakatatta) are those who constitute the act (kammappatta); the remaining bhikkhus in good standing are those entitled to give consent (chandāraha); the one in regard to whom the Saṅgha performs the act is neither one who constitutes the act nor one entitled to give consent, but rather one who is subject to the act (kammāraha). In a formal act to be performed by a group of five (pañcavagga), five regular bhikkhus in good standing are those who constitute the act; the remaining bhikkhus in good standing are those entitled to give consent; the one in regard to whom the Saṅgha performs the act is neither one who constitutes the act nor one entitled to give consent, but rather one who is subject to the act. In a formal act to be performed by a group of ten (dasavagga), ten regular bhikkhus in good standing are those who constitute the act; the remaining bhikkhus in good standing are those entitled to give consent; the one in regard to whom the Saṅgha performs the act is neither one who constitutes the act nor one entitled to give consent, but rather one who is subject to the act. In a formal act to be performed by a group of twenty (vīsativagga), twenty regular bhikkhus in good standing are those who constitute the act; the remaining bhikkhus in good standing are those entitled to give consent; the one in regard to whom the Saṅgha performs the act is neither one who constitutes the act nor one entitled to give consent, but rather one who is subject to the act.
