[1348] How do formal acts (kamma) fail with respect to the object (vatthu)? They give full ordination (upasampadā) to a paṇḍaka: the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma (adhammakamma). They give full ordination to one living in communion by theft (theyyasaṃvāsaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to one who has gone over to another sect (titthiyapakkantaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to an animal (tiracchānagata): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a matricide (mātughātaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a patricide (pitughātaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a murderer of an arahant (arahantaghātaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a violator of a bhikkhunī (bhikkhunīdūsaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a schismatic (saṅghabhedaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to one who has shed [a Tathāgata's] blood (lohituppādaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a hermaphrodite (ubhatobyañjanaka): the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. They give full ordination to a person less than twenty years of age: the act is failed as to its object, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma. Thus do formal acts fail with respect to the object.
