[1360] It was in dependence on two reasons (atthavasa) that the Pātimokkha was laid down by the Tathāgata for his disciples … the recitation of the Pātimokkha (pātimokkhuddesa) was laid down; the suspension of the Pātimokkha (pātimokkhaṭṭhapana) was laid down; the invitation (pavāraṇā) was laid down; the suspension of the invitation (pavāraṇāṭhapana) was laid down; the act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) was laid down; the act of subordination (niyassakamma) was laid down; the act of banishment (pabbājanīyakamma) was laid down; the act of reconciliation (paṭisāraṇīyakamma) was laid down; the act of suspension (ukkhepanīyakamma) was laid down; the granting of probation (parivāsa) was laid down; the sending back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanā) was laid down; the granting of penance (mānatta) was laid down; rehabilitation (abbhāna) was laid down; restoration (osāraṇīya) was laid down; removal (nissāraṇīya) was laid down; full ordination (upasampadā) was laid down; the act by announcement (apalokanakamma) was laid down; the act with a motion (ñattikamma) was laid down; the act with a motion as second (ñattidutiyakamma) was laid down; the act with a motion as fourth (ñatticatutthakamma) was laid down.
