[246] One intentionally depriving a human being (manussaviggaha) of life — how many offences (āpatti) does he commit? One intentionally depriving a human being of life commits three offences: he digs a pit aimed at a human being, thinking, "He will fall in and die" — an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa); when the person has fallen in, painful feeling (vedanā) arises — an offence of grave transgression (thullaccaya); the person dies — an offence of defeat (pārājika).
One intentionally depriving a human being of life commits these three offences.
