[893] Settlements (samatha) partake of the same side (tabbhāgiya) as a settlement; settlements partake of a different side (aññabhāgiya) from a settlement. It may be that settlements partake of the same side as a settlement; it may be that settlements partake of a different side from a settlement. How may settlements partake of the same side as a settlement? How may settlements partake of a different side from a settlement?
The decision by majority (yebhuyyasikā) partakes of the same side as the settlement in the presence (sammukhāvinaya); it partakes of a different side from the verdict of mindfulness (sativinaya), the verdict of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya), the acting upon acknowledgment (paṭiññātakaraṇa), the further penalty for one who is corrupt (tassapāpiyasikā), and the covering over with grass (tiṇavatthāraka).
The verdict of mindfulness partakes of the same side as the settlement in the presence; it partakes of a different side from the verdict of past insanity, the acting upon acknowledgment, the further penalty for one who is corrupt, the covering over with grass, and the decision by majority.
The verdict of past insanity partakes of the same side as the settlement in the presence; it partakes of a different side from the acting upon acknowledgment, the further penalty for one who is corrupt, the covering over with grass, the decision by majority, and the verdict of mindfulness.
The acting upon acknowledgment partakes of the same side as the settlement in the presence; it partakes of a different side from the further penalty for one who is corrupt, the covering over with grass, the decision by majority, the verdict of mindfulness, and the verdict of past insanity.
The further penalty for one who is corrupt partakes of the same side as the settlement in the presence; it partakes of a different side from the covering over with grass, the decision by majority, the verdict of mindfulness, the verdict of past insanity, and the acting upon acknowledgment.
The covering over with grass partakes of the same side as the settlement in the presence; it partakes of a different side from the decision by majority, the verdict of mindfulness, the verdict of past insanity, the acting upon acknowledgment, and the further penalty for one who is corrupt.
Thus it may be that settlements partake of the same side as a settlement; thus it may be that settlements partake of a different side from a settlement.
