[894] Settlement (samatha) is resolution in the presence (sammukhāvinaya); resolution in the presence is a settlement. Settlement is decision by majority (yebhuyyasikā); decision by majority is a settlement. Settlement is the verdict of mindfulness (sativinaya); the verdict of mindfulness is a settlement. Settlement is the verdict of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya); the verdict of past insanity is a settlement. Settlement is acting according to what is admitted (paṭiññātakaraṇa); acting according to what is admitted is a settlement. Settlement is the further penalty (tassapāpiyasikā); the further penalty is a settlement. Settlement is covering over as with grass (tiṇavatthāraka); covering over as with grass is a settlement.
