[901] On whatever occasion a legal issue (adhikaraṇa) is settled by removal in the presence (sammukhāvinaya) and by decision of the majority (yebhuyyasikā): where decision of the majority is obtained, there removal in the presence is obtained; where removal in the presence is obtained, there decision of the majority is obtained; removal by mindfulness (sativinaya) is not obtained there; removal on account of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya) is not obtained there; acting upon what has been admitted (paṭiññātakaraṇa) is not obtained there; the further penalty (tassapāpiyasikā) is not obtained there; covering over as with grass (tiṇavatthāraka) is not obtained there. On whatever occasion a legal issue is settled by removal in the presence and by removal by mindfulness: where removal by mindfulness is obtained, there removal in the presence is obtained; where removal in the presence is obtained, there removal by mindfulness is obtained; removal on account of past insanity is not obtained there; acting upon what has been admitted is not obtained there; the further penalty is not obtained there; covering over as with grass is not obtained there; decision of the majority is not obtained there. On whatever occasion a legal issue is settled by removal in the presence and by removal on account of past insanity: where removal on account of past insanity is obtained, there removal in the presence is obtained; where removal in the presence is obtained, there removal on account of past insanity is obtained; acting upon what has been admitted is not obtained there; the further penalty is not obtained there; covering over as with grass is not obtained there; decision of the majority is not obtained there; removal by mindfulness is not obtained there. On whatever occasion a legal issue is settled by removal in the presence and by acting upon what has been admitted: where acting upon what has been admitted is obtained, there removal in the presence is obtained; where removal in the presence is obtained, there acting upon what has been admitted is obtained; the further penalty is not obtained there; covering over as with grass is not obtained there; decision of the majority is not obtained there; removal by mindfulness is not obtained there; removal on account of past insanity is not obtained there. On whatever occasion a legal issue is settled by removal in the presence and by the further penalty: where the further penalty is obtained, there removal in the presence is obtained; where removal in the presence is obtained, there the further penalty is obtained; covering over as with grass is not obtained there; decision of the majority is not obtained there; removal by mindfulness is not obtained there; removal on account of past insanity is not obtained there; acting upon what has been admitted is not obtained there. On whatever occasion a legal issue is settled by removal in the presence and by covering over as with grass: where covering over as with grass is obtained, there removal in the presence is obtained; where removal in the presence is obtained, there covering over as with grass is obtained; decision of the majority is not obtained there; removal by mindfulness is not obtained there; removal on account of past insanity is not obtained there; acting upon what has been admitted is not obtained there; the further penalty is not obtained there.
