[174] Then the brahmin Pokkharasāti, having had delicious hard and soft food prepared in his own residence and loaded onto a carriage, set out from Ukkaṭṭhā while torches were being carried, and drove toward the Icchānaṅgala forest grove. He went by carriage as far as the ground allowed for carriages, then dismounted from the carriage and approached the Blessed One on foot. Having approached, he exchanged greetings with the Blessed One, and when the courteous and memorable talk was concluded, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the brahmin Pokkharasāti said to the Blessed One: "Master Gotama, has our resident pupil, the young brahmin (māṇava) Ambaṭṭha, come here?"
"Brahmin, your resident pupil, the young brahmin Ambaṭṭha, did come here."
"But, Master Gotama, did you have some conversation with the young brahmin Ambaṭṭha?"
"Brahmin, I did have some conversation with the young brahmin Ambaṭṭha."
"But in what way, Master Gotama, did the conversation with the young brahmin Ambaṭṭha take place?"
Then the Blessed One related to the brahmin Pokkharasāti the whole of the conversation that had taken place with the young brahmin Ambaṭṭha.
