[175] When this was said, the brahmin Pokkharasāti said to the Blessed One: "Worthy Gotama, the young man Ambaṭṭha is a fool. May the worthy Gotama forgive the young man Ambaṭṭha."
"May the young man Ambaṭṭha be happy, brahmin."
Then the brahmin Pokkharasāti scrutinized the Blessed One's body for the thirty-two marks of a great man (mahāpurisalakkhaṇa). The brahmin Pokkharasāti saw on the Blessed One's body the thirty-two marks of a great man for the most part, excepting two; regarding two of the marks of a great man he was doubtful, uncertain, undecided, and not convinced: concerning the private parts being enclosed in a sheath, and the largeness of the tongue.
Then it occurred to the Blessed One: "This brahmin Pokkharasāti sees the thirty-two marks of a great man on me for the most part, excepting two; regarding two of the marks of a great man he is doubtful, uncertain, undecided, and not convinced: concerning the private parts being enclosed in a sheath, and the largeness of the tongue."
Then the Blessed One effected such a feat of psychic power (iddhābhisaṅkhāra) that the brahmin Pokkharasāti saw the Blessed One's private parts enclosed in a sheath. And the Blessed One, extending his tongue, stroked it back and forth over both ear openings, stroked it back and forth over both nostrils, and covered the entire circle of his forehead with his tongue.
Then it occurred to the brahmin Pokkharasāti: "The ascetic Gotama is endowed with the thirty-two marks of a great man, complete and not incomplete." He said to the Blessed One: "May the worthy Gotama, together with the Saṅgha of bhikkhus, consent to accept today's meal from me."
The Blessed One consented by silence. Then the brahmin Pokkharasāti, understanding that the Blessed One had consented, announced the time to the Blessed One: "It is time, worthy Gotama; the meal is ready."
