[18] "Or just as some honorable ascetics and brahmins, while eating food given in faith, are deceivers, flatterers, hinters, belittlers, and pursuers of gain with gain (kuhakā ca lapakā ca nemittikā ca nippesikā ca lābhena ca lābhaṃ nijigiṃsitāro) — the ascetic Gotama refrains from such deceit (kuhanā) and flattery (lapanā)." It is in this way too, bhikkhus, that an ordinary person (puthujjana), speaking praise of the Tathāgata, might speak.
