[360] "Lohicca, there are these three teachers in the world who deserve to be reprimanded; and when anyone reprimands teachers of such a kind, that reprimand is true, factual, legitimate, and blameless. What three? Here, Lohicca, a certain teacher has not attained the goal of the ascetic life (sāmaññattha) for the sake of which he went forth from the household life into homelessness. Not having attained that goal of the ascetic life, he teaches the Dhamma to his disciples, saying: 'This is for your welfare; this is for your happiness.' His disciples do not wish to listen, do not lend an ear, do not set their minds upon understanding, and they carry on, having turned aside from the teacher's instruction. He should be reprimanded thus: 'The venerable one has not attained the goal of the ascetic life for the sake of which he went forth from the household life into homelessness. Not having attained that goal of the ascetic life, you teach the Dhamma to your disciples: "This is for your welfare; this is for your happiness." But those disciples of yours do not wish to listen, do not lend an ear, do not set their minds upon understanding, and they carry on, having turned aside from the teacher's instruction. Just as a man might make advances upon a woman who draws back, or embrace one who has turned her face away—of just such a kind, I say, is this wicked thing of greed (lobhadhamma); for what can one person do for another?' This, Lohicca, is the first teacher who deserves to be reprimanded in the world; and when anyone reprimands a teacher of such a kind, that reprimand is true, factual, legitimate, and blameless."
