[364] When this was said, the brahmin Lohicca said to the Blessed One: "Worthy Gotama, just as a man might seize by the hair another man who was falling into the abyss of hell (narakapapāta), draw him up, and set him upon firm ground, even so have I, who was falling into the abyss of hell, been drawn up by the worthy Gotama and set upon firm ground. Excellent, worthy Gotama! Excellent, worthy Gotama! Just as, worthy Gotama, one might set upright what has been overturned, or uncover what has been concealed, or point out the way to one who has gone astray … May the worthy Gotama remember me as a lay follower who has gone for refuge for as long as life lasts, from this day forth." …
