[206] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu who went on alms-round, sitting down on a stool, pressed down upon a child who was covered over with a rag and killed him. He was remorseful, thinking, "Have I not incurred an offence entailing defeat (pārājika)?" Then that bhikkhu reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhu, there is no offence entailing defeat. And, bhikkhus, one should not sit down on a seat without first examining it; whoever should sit down commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
