[243] With three modes ... [when a bhikkhu, knowingly speaking falsely, says:] "I attained the second jhāna ... the third jhāna ... the fourth jhāna; I attain it; I have attained it; I am an obtainer of the fourth jhāna; I have mastery over it; the fourth jhāna has been realized by me" — for one knowingly speaking falsely there is an offense of pārājika: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsely"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsely"; having spoken he knows, "I have spoken falsely" — misrepresenting his view, misrepresenting his conviction, misrepresenting his preference, misrepresenting his state.
