[242] Speaking a deliberate lie (sampajānamusā), saying, "The first jhāna has been realized by me," with three modes, one incurs an offense entailing defeat (pārājika): beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsehood"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsehood"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me." Speaking a deliberate lie, saying, "The first jhāna has been realized by me," with four modes, one incurs an offense entailing defeat: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsehood"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsehood"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me"; having misrepresented his view (vinidhāya diṭṭhiṃ). Speaking a deliberate lie, saying, "The first jhāna has been realized by me," with five modes, one incurs an offense entailing defeat: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsehood"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsehood"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me"; having misrepresented his view; having misrepresented his acceptance (khanti). Speaking a deliberate lie, saying, "The first jhāna has been realized by me," with six modes, one incurs an offense entailing defeat: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsehood"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsehood"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me"; having misrepresented his view; having misrepresented his acceptance; having misrepresented his preference (ruci). Speaking a deliberate lie, saying, "The first jhāna has been realized by me," with seven modes, one incurs an offense entailing defeat: beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsehood"; while speaking he knows, "I am speaking falsehood"; having spoken he knows, "Falsehood has been spoken by me"; having misrepresented his view; having misrepresented his acceptance; having misrepresented his preference; having misrepresented his state (bhāva). (As this first jhāna has been expounded in detail, so all should likewise be expounded in detail.)
