Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (1) · Vol. 1 · Section 370

[370] Now at that time semen was emitted by a certain bhikkhu while he was playing in a heap of flowers (pupphāvaḷi). He was remorseful … [ellipsis in the Pali (pe): "Perhaps I have committed an offense of saṅghādisesa," and he reported the matter to the Blessed One; the Blessed One questioned him, and then said:] "There is no offense, bhikkhu, since you did not intend emission (na mocanādhippāyassa)." Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, intending emission, was playing in a heap of flowers, and semen was emitted … [ellipsis in the Pali: the verdict for this sub-case — an offense of saṅghādisesa — is elided; the text then continues with the parallel sub-case:] … [a certain bhikkhu, intending emission, was playing in a heap of flowers, but] semen (asuci) was not emitted. He was remorseful … [ellipsis in the Pali: he reported the matter to the Blessed One, who questioned him, and then said:] "Bhikkhu, there is no offense of saṅghādisesa; there is an offense of thullaccaya."
