[548] "Whoever" (yo pana): whoever, of whatever sort … "Bhikkhu": … this one is what is meant in this context by "bhikkhu." "A bhikkhu" (bhikkhuṃ): another bhikkhu. "Malicious, hateful" (duṭṭho doso): angered, displeased, dissatisfied, with a mind struck by resentment, having become hardened. "Discontented" (appatīto): through that anger, through that hatred, through that displeasure, and through that dissatisfaction, he is discontented. "Groundless" (amūlaka) means: not seen, not heard, not suspected. "With an offense entailing defeat (pārājika)": with one or another of the four. "Should accuse" (anuddhaṃseyya): he accuses or causes another to accuse. "Thinking, 'Perhaps I may make him fall from this holy life (brahmacariya)'": I may make him fall from the state of a bhikkhu, make him fall from the dhamma of an ascetic, make him fall from the aggregate of virtue (sīlakkhandha), make him fall from the quality of austerity.
