Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (1) · Vol. 1 · Section 603

[603] **'Of that same [bhikkhu]'** means: of that schismatic (saṅghabhedaka) bhikkhu. **'There are bhikkhus'** means: there are other bhikkhus. **'Followers'** (anuvattakā) means: whatever view he holds, whatever belief he holds, whatever preference he has, they too hold that view, hold that belief, have that preference. **'Speaking on his side'** (vaggavādakā) means: they stand in praise of him, on his faction. **'One, or two, or three'** means: there is one, or two, or three; they might speak thus: "Venerable sirs, do not say anything against this bhikkhu. This bhikkhu speaks in accordance with the Dhamma; this bhikkhu speaks in accordance with the Vinaya. This bhikkhu speaks taking up our desire and our preference; he knows, and he speaks for us; and this is agreeable to us also."
