[604] "Those bhikkhus" means: those bhikkhus who are the followers (anuvattakā) [of the schismatic]. "By bhikkhus" means: by other bhikkhus. Those who see and those who hear should tell them: "Let the venerable ones not speak thus. That bhikkhu is not one who speaks Dhamma, and that bhikkhu is not one who speaks Vinaya. Let not schism in the Saṅgha (saṅghabheda) find favor with the venerable ones either. Let the venerable ones be reconciled with the Saṅgha, for a Saṅgha that is united, in mutual accord, without dispute, with a single recitation, dwells in comfort." They should be told a second time; they should be told a third time. If they relinquish it, that is good; if they do not relinquish it, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). If, having heard, they do not speak, there is an offense of wrong-doing.
Those bhikkhus, having been drawn even into the midst of the Saṅgha, should be told: "Let the venerable ones not speak thus. That bhikkhu is not one who speaks Dhamma, and that bhikkhu is not one who speaks Vinaya. Let not schism in the Saṅgha find favor with the venerable ones either. Let the venerable ones be reconciled with the Saṅgha, for a Saṅgha that is united, in mutual accord, without dispute, with a single recitation, dwells in comfort." They should be told a second time; they should be told a third time. If they relinquish it, that is good; if they do not relinquish it, there is an offense of wrong-doing.
