[32] Brahmin, this thought occurred to me: 'Whatever ascetics or brahmins there are of unpurified verbal conduct … of unpurified mental conduct … of unpurified livelihood who resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest — those worthy ascetics and brahmins, because of the defect of their unpurified livelihood, indeed summon up unwholesome fear and dread. But I do not resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest with unpurified livelihood; I am one of purified livelihood. Whatever noble ones there are who, with purified livelihood, resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and the forest — of those I am one.' Brahmin, seeing in myself this purity of livelihood, I became even more at ease about dwelling in the forest.
