[353] "Furthermore, Udāyi, I have declared to my disciples the way of practice (paṭipadā), practicing in accordance with which my disciples, with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), purified and surpassing the human, see beings passing away and being reborn — inferior and superior, fair and ugly, fortunate and unfortunate — and they understand beings as faring according to their kamma: 'These beings, sirs, endowed with bodily misconduct, endowed with verbal misconduct, endowed with mental misconduct, revilers of the noble ones, holding wrong view, undertaking actions under the influence of wrong view — with the breaking up of the body, after death, have arisen in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell. But these beings, sirs, endowed with bodily good conduct, endowed with verbal good conduct, endowed with mental good conduct, not revilers of the noble ones, holding right view, undertaking actions under the influence of right view — with the breaking up of the body, after death, have arisen in a good destination, a heavenly world.' Thus with the divine eye, purified and surpassing the human, they see beings passing away and being reborn — inferior and superior, fair and ugly, fortunate and unfortunate — and they understand beings as faring according to their kamma.
Just as, Udāyi, there might be two houses with doors, and a man with eyes, standing in between, would see people entering the houses, leaving them, wandering about, and roaming to and fro; even so, Udāyi, I have declared to my disciples the way of practice, practicing in accordance with which my disciples, with the divine eye, purified and surpassing the human, see beings passing away and being reborn — inferior and superior, fair and ugly, fortunate and unfortunate … and they understand beings as faring according to their kamma.
And therein many of my disciples abide having attained the consummation and perfection of direct knowledge (abhiññā)."
