[708] When this was said, the brahmin students Vāseṭṭha and Bhāradvāja said to the Blessed One: "Excellent, Master Gotama! Excellent, Master Gotama! Just as, Master Gotama, one might set upright what has been overturned, or uncover what has been concealed, or point out the way to one who has gone astray, or hold up an oil lamp in the darkness, thinking, 'Those who have eyes will see forms' — even so has the Dhamma been made clear in many ways by Master Gotama. We here go to Master Gotama for refuge (saraṇa), and to the Dhamma, and to the Saṅgha of bhikkhus (bhikkhusaṅgha). May Master Gotama remember us as lay followers (upāsaka) who have gone to him for refuge from this day forth, for as long as life lasts."
The Vāseṭṭhasutta, the eighth, is finished.
