[200] When this was said, the Venerable Sāriputta said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, of this statement spoken in brief by the Blessed One, whose meaning has not been analyzed in detail, I understand the detailed meaning thus:
"'Bhikkhus, I say that bodily conduct (kāyasamācāra) is of two kinds: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and each of these is itself bodily conduct.' So it was said by the Blessed One. And in dependence on what was this said?
"Venerable sir, such bodily conduct as causes, in one who cultivates it, unwholesome dhammas to increase and wholesome dhammas to decline — bodily conduct of that kind should not be cultivated. But such bodily conduct as causes, in one who cultivates it, unwholesome dhammas to decline and wholesome dhammas to increase — bodily conduct of that kind should be cultivated."
