[218] "'Bhikkhus, I speak of the acquisition of individuality (attabhāvapaṭilābha) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and each of these, in relation to the other, is an acquisition of individuality' — thus indeed was this said by the Blessed One. But with reference to what was this said?
Venerable sir, such an acquisition of individuality as causes, in one who cultivates it, unwholesome qualities to increase and wholesome qualities to decline — such an acquisition of individuality should not be cultivated. But such an acquisition of individuality as causes, in one who cultivates it, unwholesome qualities to decline and wholesome qualities to increase — such an acquisition of individuality should be cultivated."
