[199] The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, I speak of bodily conduct (kāyasamācāra) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is bodily conduct distinct from the other. Bhikkhus, I speak of verbal conduct (vacīsamācāra) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is verbal conduct distinct from the other. Bhikkhus, I speak of mental conduct (manosamācāra) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is mental conduct distinct from the other. Bhikkhus, I speak of the arising of mind (citta) — the arising of thought (cittuppāda) — as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is an arising of thought distinct from the other. Bhikkhus, I speak of the acquisition of perception (saññāpaṭilābha) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is an acquisition of perception distinct from the other. Bhikkhus, I speak of the acquisition of view (diṭṭhipaṭilābha) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is an acquisition of view distinct from the other. Bhikkhus, I speak of the acquisition of individual existence (attabhāvapaṭilābha) as twofold: that which should be cultivated and that which should not be cultivated; and the one is an acquisition of individual existence distinct from the other."
