[207] "Venerable sir, when one cultivates what kind of mental conduct (manosamācāra) do unwholesome states (akusalā dhammā) increase and wholesome states (kusalā dhammā) decline? Here, venerable sir, a certain person is covetous (abhijjhālu): he covets the wealth and property of another, thinking, 'Oh, that what belongs to another were mine!' And he has a mind of ill will (byāpanna-citta), with corrupt intentions in his mind: 'May these beings be slain, or be slaughtered, or be cut off, or perish, or may they not exist at all!' Venerable sir, when one cultivates mental conduct of such a kind, unwholesome states increase and wholesome states decline."
