[374] Bhikkhus, it is by way of elements (dhātu) that beings come together and unite. Those of faith (saddhā) come together and unite with those of faith; those with a sense of moral shame (hiri) come together and unite with those with a sense of moral shame; those with moral dread (ottappa) come together and unite with those with moral dread; the learned (bahussuta) come together and unite with the learned; those of aroused energy (āraddhavīriya) come together and unite with those of aroused energy; those of established mindfulness (upaṭṭhitassati) come together and unite with those of established mindfulness; the wise (paññavanta) come together and unite with the wise.
In the past period too, bhikkhus, … In the future period too, bhikkhus, … Now too, bhikkhus, in the present period, … they come together and unite.
