[389] He was dwelling at Sāvatthī ... There the Blessed One ... "Bhikkhus, it is by way of elements (dhātu) that beings flow together and converge: the lazy flow together and converge with the lazy; those of muddled mindfulness flow together and converge with those of muddled mindfulness; those of poor wisdom flow together and converge with those of poor wisdom. Those of aroused energy flow together and converge with those of aroused energy; those of established mindfulness flow together and converge with those of established mindfulness; the wise flow together and converge with the wise."

Five rooted in the faithless (Assaddhamūlakā),
Four rooted in the shameless (Ahirikamūlakā),
Three rooted in lack of moral dread (Anottappamūlakā),
Two with the one of little learning (Appassuta),
The Lazy (Kusīta) is stated as one —
The suttantas: three pentads.⁴
