[331] When this was said, the Venerable Sāriputta said this to the Venerable Mahākoṭṭhita: "'True knowledge (vijjā), true knowledge,' friend Koṭṭhita, it is said. What now, friend, is true knowledge, and in what way has one arrived at true knowledge?"
"Here, friend, an instructed noble disciple understands as it really is (yathābhūta) the origin and the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to form. In regard to feeling (vedanā) … in regard to perception … in regard to volitional formations … he understands as it really is the origin and the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to consciousness. This, friend, is called true knowledge, and in this way one has arrived at true knowledge."
