[321] When this was said, that bhikkhu said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, it is said, 'true knowledge, true knowledge (vijjā).' What now, venerable sir, is true knowledge, and in what way has one arrived at true knowledge?"
"Here, bhikkhu, an instructed noble disciple (sutavā ariyasāvaka) understands as it really is (yathābhūta) form (rūpa) that is subject to arising thus: 'Form is subject to arising.' He understands as it really is form that is subject to vanishing thus: 'Form is subject to vanishing.' He understands as it really is form that is subject to arising and vanishing thus: 'Form is subject to arising and vanishing.' He understands as it really is feeling (vedanā) that is subject to arising thus: 'Feeling is subject to arising.' He understands as it really is feeling that is subject to vanishing thus: 'Feeling is subject to vanishing.' He understands as it really is feeling that is subject to arising and vanishing thus: 'Feeling is subject to arising and vanishing.' He understands … perception (saññā) that is subject to arising … He understands as it really is volitional formations (saṅkhārā) that are subject to arising thus: 'Volitional formations are subject to arising.' He understands as it really is volitional formations that are subject to vanishing thus: 'Volitional formations are subject to vanishing.' He understands as it really is volitional formations that are subject to arising and vanishing thus: 'Volitional formations are subject to arising and vanishing.' He understands as it really is consciousness (viññāṇa) that is subject to arising thus: 'Consciousness is subject to arising.' He understands as it really is consciousness that is subject to vanishing thus: 'Consciousness is subject to vanishing.' He understands as it really is consciousness that is subject to arising and vanishing thus: 'Consciousness is subject to arising and vanishing.' This, bhikkhu, is called true knowledge, and in this way one has arrived at true knowledge."
