[481] At Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, that which is the arising, the persistence, the production, and the manifestation of forms (rūpā) — this is the arising of suffering (dukkha), the persistence of diseases, the manifestation of aging and death (jarāmaraṇa). That of sounds … that of odours … that of tastes … that of tangibles … that which is the arising, the persistence, the production, and the manifestation of mental phenomena (dhammā) — this is the arising of suffering, the persistence of diseases, the manifestation of aging and death.
