[600] At Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, there are these four meditators. Which four? Here, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in attainment (samāpatti) regarding concentration (samādhi) but not skilled in resolute direction (abhinīhāra) regarding concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in resolute direction regarding concentration but not skilled in attainment regarding concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is neither skilled in attainment regarding concentration nor skilled in resolute direction regarding concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is both skilled in attainment regarding concentration and skilled in resolute direction regarding concentration. Therein … and the best.
