[590] At Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, there are these four kinds of meditators (jhāyī). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in concentration (samādhi) regarding concentration, but is not skilled in the resort (gocara) regarding concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in the resort regarding concentration, but is not skilled in concentration regarding concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is neither skilled in concentration regarding concentration nor skilled in the resort regarding concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is both skilled in concentration regarding concentration and skilled in the resort regarding concentration. Therein, bhikkhus, the meditator who is both skilled in concentration regarding concentration and skilled in the resort regarding concentration is the foremost, the best, the preeminent, the highest, and the most excellent of these four kinds of meditators. Just as, bhikkhus, from a cow comes milk … the most excellent.
