[604] Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, there are these four meditators (jhāyī). Which four? Here, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in steadiness (ṭhiti) in concentration (samādhi) but not skilled in emergence (vuṭṭhāna) from concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in emergence from concentration but not skilled in steadiness in concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is neither skilled in steadiness in concentration nor skilled in emergence from concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is both skilled in steadiness in concentration and skilled in emergence from concentration. Therein, bhikkhus, the meditator who … is the highest and the most excellent."
