[605] At Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, there are these four meditators (jhāyī). What four? Here, bhikkhus, one meditator is skilled in emergence (vuṭṭhāna) regarding concentration (samādhi) but not skilled in pliancy (kallita) regarding concentration. One is skilled in pliancy regarding concentration but not skilled in emergence regarding concentration. One is neither skilled in emergence regarding concentration nor skilled in pliancy regarding concentration. One is both skilled in emergence regarding concentration and skilled in pliancy regarding concentration. Therein, bhikkhus, the meditator who … is the highest and the best."
