[595] Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, there are these four kinds of meditators (jhāyī). Which four? Here, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in attainment (samāpattikusala) with regard to concentration (samādhi) but not skilled in steadiness (ṭhitikusala) with regard to concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is skilled in steadiness with regard to concentration but not skilled in attainment with regard to concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is neither skilled in attainment with regard to concentration nor skilled in steadiness with regard to concentration. Here again, bhikkhus, a certain meditator is both skilled in attainment with regard to concentration and skilled in steadiness with regard to concentration. Therein, bhikkhus, the meditator who is both skilled in attainment with regard to concentration and skilled in steadiness with regard to concentration — this one is the foremost, the best, the chief, the highest, and the most excellent of these four meditators. Just as, bhikkhus, from a cow comes milk … 'and the most excellent.'"
