[607] At Sāvatthī. … [One meditator (jhāyī)] is skilled in the object (ārammaṇa) with regard to concentration (samādhi), but is not skilled in the range (gocara) with regard to concentration. [Another] is skilled in the range with regard to concentration, but is not skilled in the object with regard to concentration. [Another] is neither skilled in the object with regard to concentration nor skilled in the range with regard to concentration. [Another] is both skilled in the object with regard to concentration and skilled in the range with regard to concentration.
Therein, bhikkhus, the meditator who … is the highest and the most excellent.
