[162] Bhikkhus, one who does not directly know and does not fully understand forms (rūpa), who does not become dispassionate toward them and does not abandon them, is incapable of the destruction of suffering (dukkha). Sounds … odors … tastes … tangibles … one who does not directly know and does not fully understand dhammas, who does not become dispassionate toward them and does not abandon them, is incapable of the destruction of suffering.
But, bhikkhus, one who directly knows and fully understands forms, who becomes dispassionate toward them and abandons them, is capable of the destruction of suffering. Sounds … odors … tastes … tangibles … one who directly knows and fully understands dhammas, who becomes dispassionate toward them and abandons them, is capable of the destruction of suffering.
