[179] "There are, Lord of devas, forms cognizable by the eye that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, pleasing, connected with sensual pleasure, provocative of lust. If a bhikkhu does not delight in that, does not welcome it, and does not remain attached to it, then, as he does not delight in it, does not welcome it, and does not remain attached to it, his consciousness (viññāṇa) does not become dependent upon that, and there is no clinging (upādāna) to that. Without clinging, Lord of devas, a bhikkhu attains final Nibbāna (parinibbāyati). … There are, Lord of devas, tastes cognizable by the tongue … There are, Lord of devas, dhammas cognizable by the mind that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, pleasing, connected with sensual pleasure, provocative of lust. If a bhikkhu does not delight in that, does not welcome it, and does not remain attached to it, then, as he does not delight in it, does not welcome it, and does not remain attached to it, his consciousness does not become dependent upon that, and there is no clinging to that. Without clinging, Lord of devas, a bhikkhu attains final Nibbāna. This, Lord of devas, is the cause, this is the reason why some beings here attain final Nibbāna in this very life."
