[394] "Bhikkhu, there are these six tranquilities (passaddhi). For one who has attained the first jhāna, speech has been tranquilized. For one who has attained the second jhāna, thought and examination (vitakka-vicārā) have been tranquilized. For one who has attained the third jhāna, rapture has been tranquilized. For one who has attained the fourth jhāna, in-breathing and out-breathing have been tranquilized. For one who has attained the cessation of perception and feeling (saññāvedayitanirodha), perception and feeling have been tranquilized. For a bhikkhu whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, lust has been tranquilized, hatred has been tranquilized, delusion has been tranquilized."
