[1250] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, developing the four bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda), cultivating the four bases of spiritual power, come to slant toward Nibbāna, slope toward Nibbāna, incline toward Nibbāna? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the base of spiritual power endowed with concentration (samādhi) due to desire (chanda) and volitional formations of striving (padhānasaṅkhāra). He develops the base of spiritual power endowed with concentration due to energy … concentration due to mind … concentration due to investigation (vīmaṃsā) and volitional formations of striving. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, developing the four bases of spiritual power, cultivating the four bases of spiritual power, slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna.
