[1118] Bhikkhus, there are these four bases of spiritual power (iddhipādā). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the basis of spiritual power endowed with concentration (samādhi) due to desire (chanda) and volitional formations of striving (padhānasaṅkhāra). He develops the basis of spiritual power endowed with concentration due to energy … concentration due to mind (citta) … concentration due to inquiry (vīmaṃsā) and volitional formations of striving. These, bhikkhus, are the four bases of spiritual power. It is because these four bases of spiritual power have been developed and cultivated that the Tathāgata is called 'the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One.'
