[1359] "Bhikkhus—Ānanda, at whatever time a bhikkhu trains thus: 'Experiencing rapture, I shall breathe in'; trains thus: 'Experiencing rapture, I shall breathe out'; trains thus: 'Experiencing pleasure, I shall breathe in'; trains thus: 'Experiencing pleasure, I shall breathe out'; trains thus: 'Experiencing the mental formation (cittasaṅkhāra), I shall breathe in'; trains thus: 'Experiencing the mental formation, I shall breathe out'; trains thus: 'Calming the mental formation, I shall breathe in'; trains thus: 'Calming the mental formation, I shall breathe out'—at that time, Ānanda, the bhikkhu dwells contemplating feelings in feelings (vedanā), ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, removing covetousness and grief regarding the world. For what reason? I say, Ānanda, that this—namely, careful attention to in-breaths and out-breaths—is a certain one among feelings. Therefore, Ānanda, at that time a bhikkhu dwells contemplating feelings in feelings, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, removing covetousness and grief regarding the world."
