Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 1381

[1381] "But, venerable sir, what is the one dhamma which, when developed and cultivated, fulfills four dhammas; which four dhammas, when developed and cultivated, fulfill seven dhammas; which seven dhammas, when developed and cultivated, fulfill two dhammas?" "Ānanda, concentration (samādhi) through mindfulness of breathing (ānāpānasati) is the one dhamma which, when developed and cultivated, fulfills the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). The four establishments of mindfulness, when developed and cultivated, fulfill the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga). The seven factors of awakening, when developed and cultivated, fulfill true knowledge and liberation (vijjāvimutti)."
