[1488] "Friend, such lack of confidence (appasāda) in the Saṅgha, possessed of which an unlearned worldling (puthujjana), with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a state of deprivation (apāya), a bad destination, the nether world, hell — such lack of confidence in the Saṅgha he does not have. And friend, such unwavering confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Saṅgha, possessed of which a learned noble disciple, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world — such unwavering confidence in the Saṅgha he has: 'The Saṅgha of the Blessed One's disciples is practicing well … the unsurpassed field of merit for the world.'"
