[164] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu accomplished in careful attention (yoniso manasikāra) develop the noble eightfold path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), and cultivate the noble eightfold path? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view … develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), which has the removal of lust (rāga) as its culmination, the removal of hatred as its culmination, the removal of delusion as its culmination. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu accomplished in careful attention develops the noble eightfold path and cultivates the noble eightfold path.

Good friendship and virtue,
desire and accomplishment in self,
view and diligence,
and careful attention is the seventh.
