[268] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, just as whatever works are to be done by strength are all done in dependence on the earth, standing upon the earth — it is thus that these works to be done by strength are done — even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, in dependence on virtue (sīla), established upon virtue, develops the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), cultivates the Noble Eightfold Path.
