[267] And how, Bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, depending upon virtue (sīla), established upon virtue, develop the noble eightfold path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), cultivate the noble eightfold path? Here, Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi), which has as its final goal the removal of lust (rāga), the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), which has as its final goal the removal of lust, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion. It is in this way, Bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, depending upon virtue, established upon virtue, develops the noble eightfold path, cultivates the noble eightfold path.
