[838] "Bhikkhus, for the abandoning of these three taints (āsava), the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) should be developed. Which four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. He dwells contemplating feeling (vedanā) in feelings, mind (citta) in the mind, dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. For the abandoning of these three taints, bhikkhus, these four establishments of mindfulness should be developed." The Amatavagga, the fifth. Its summary (uddāna): The Deathless, Origin, the Path, the Mindful One,¹ and the Heap of the Wholesome, the Pātimokkha, Misconduct, Friends,² Feeling, and with the Taints. ¹ M. reads: sati. ² M. reads: mittavedanā.
