Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 1278

[1278] Setting at Sāvatthī. There the Venerable Anuruddha addressed the bhikkhus … and said this: "Friends, these four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), when developed and cultivated, lead to the destruction of craving (taṇhā). What four? Here, friends, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body … in feelings (vedanā) … in the mind (citta) … he dwells contemplating dhammas in dhammas — ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. These, friends, are the four establishments of mindfulness which, when developed and cultivated, lead to the destruction of craving."
